Bernalillo County Urges Residents to Stay Prepared During Heavy Rainfalls

Bernalillo County is reminding residents that sandbags can help to stop water from rushing into yards and onto property from flash-flooding that can occur during heavy rainfalls. BernCo Public Works provides the sand and the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA) provides the bags. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags.

Especially during heavy rains, residents are reminded to stay away from ditches and arroyos. Rains in the foothills and the mountains will cause high water levels in the ditches and arroyos all over the valley, so caution is advised anywhere fast water may be flowing.
